Good Day Mate,
We are going to try and answer your questions. We call felt tip pens, "markers." When we went to the zoo and looked for Australian animals. We saw koalas, wombats, emus, and kangaroos. We just finished reading Wombat Stew, the book you sent us and we wondered what some of those words mean. What is a billybong and what is a billy?
We have Character Counts in our school district. There are 6 pillars, Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. Do you have Character Counts pillars at Knox School?
What do you call ice cream? What kind of brands do you have? What is your favorite snack? Are you allowed to have a snack at school?
Do you have a library in your school? How many computers are in your computer lab? We have 30 in the lab and 2 or 3 in each classroom.
Have you ever been to the Sydney Opera House? What does it look like? Have you ever seen a Tasmanian devil?
Do you get an allowance? How much money do you get and what chores do you have to do? What is your favorite toy?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Your firends.

Hi again - Australia does have a few unusual words, doesn't it?! A billabong is basicallly a pond. A 'billy' is a tin can, with a handle, that would be used to boil water over a camp fire. You hear a 'billy' being referred to in the famous Australian song "Waltzing Matilda".
We have something similar to your "Character Counts" pillars - In Junior School we focus on four foundations for success: Confidence, Getting Along, Persistence & Organisation. We are also developing work on The Knox School Values, which are similar to your pillars.
You'll be glad to know we call ice cream "ice cream"! We have brands including Nestle, Peters, Bulla & others.
We have a snack time at approximately 10am each day. Students are encouraged to eat something healthy, such as a piece of fruit but are allowed to bring whatever their parents have given them. Chocolate biscuits and cake are enjoyed as a special treat when it's someone's birthday.
We have several computer rooms in school that we can access, some with 25 computers, some with 9 or 10. Each classroom in Junior School also has three computers.
You asked about Sydney Opera House - one of our students is going to Sydney next weekend & has offered to take 'Grizzly' with him on the trip - maybe he'll be able to get to the Opera House.
Most Year 2 students get some allowance - we call it 'pocket money'. The amount varies from a few cents to $7 +. Agreed chores are usually helping with dishes, taking out rubbish to the bin, tidying rooms and helping with vacuuming. Mrs Mattison was reminding her students that adults have to do these chores without getting paid for them!!!
We'll sign off for now & await more news from you soon.
Your Year 2 mates.
