Mrs. Kertz's News

We had a great time at the zoo. We saw a giraffe. We did not see a koala, but we wished we did. We saw Emus and camels. We saw a lot of bats. We did see a wombat. We saw a baby polar bear. It was so cute. The mom was doing a dance! We saw sea lions, zebras, lions, hippos, monkeys, and tigers. It would be interesting to be in a smaller school. Even with 3 buses, many of us had to sit 3 kids to a seat. We had a lot of moms come with us on the field trip to help lead our groups.

We are looking forward to many end of the year activities. 2nd grade is going to have a "beach day" in a couple weeks. We get to go ouside and bring bubbles, beach blankets, chalk, and many other things to do outside. On that day, the older kids in our school get to go to the park and pool down the street from the school.

Looking forward to your next post.

Hello again.
Your beach day sounds like fun. We had some exciting events on Thursday this week. A visiting presenter from a local university gave us a talk on the skeletal system - she brought along a full sized skeleton, called Mr Bones. Some students got to shake his hand, which felt a little weird! Then we were able to do five different activities, which included making a pretend bone from rolled paper, then testing its strength with weights, identifying animal bones (including a koala skull, a womabat skull & a horse's jaw bone!) and making a backbone from pasta tubes and washers. We had great fun & learnt a lot too. Later the same day we had a visit from the Victoria Police Pipe Band (Victoria being the state we live in). They were really good & funny too. They played tunes ranging from traditional songs like Waltzing Matilda, to Bob the Builder, some football team songs and even a song by Eminem!
The week before we'd had special breakfasts at school for Mothers' Day, & stalls selling gifts for us to give to our Mums. All in all, we've had a busy few weeks.
We look forward to hearing about your beach day.
Your Melbourne friends.
